Day 28: Recap of the Days Gone By

It's has been a couple of days since my last update. I haven't been able to shoot that much (in general) due to work and other (social) events. This post will hold several photo's I made with the M9 in the 20+ days I didn't report back here. During this period I also sold a lot of my Nikon gear. Especially most of the prime lenses I owned. Since I have the M9 now, I doubt that I will have much use for those primes. I will hold on to the Macro lens and my two zoom lenses (the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 and the 70-200 f/2.8).

The Panasonic G3 I won with a photo contest is also gone (SOLD!!!). This camera was a real beauty, but I had no use for it. It's situated between a compact camera and a dSLR. The two camera types I have (Nikon P7000, and a Nikon D300) are more than sufficient for me. Overkill might be a better word.....

Back to the Leica M9 adventure....

Not all is well with Leica. The equipment may be gorgeous, but on the technical side there are still some (software/firmware) bugs that need to be taken care of. For example; every once in a while I get a RAW file on my SanDisk Ultra 16GB SD card which is 0 bytes. When this happens, the red (busy) light on the back keeps flashing, even when I turn the camera of. When this occurs, I can't take any more photo's, since the camera is busy doing 'God knows what'. The solution (so far) is to remove the battery, and accept that I've lost the last photo. The flashing red light also happens every now and then without corrupting the photo. Same solution for that one: remove the battery. It looks like I'm not the only one having this issue [1, 2]. Even Leica has responded to this malfunction.

But when things don't go wrong, I'm extremely happy with the camera.

The manual focus needed some getting-used-to. Especially since the Nikon focus rings turn the other way around, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Problem is that my manual focus skills on the D300 are awful.
