Really Right Stuff D300 L-Plate
Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 19:38
After getting the Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1, the next logical step was getting an L-plate for my camera. An L-plate is a camera plate that allows you to position the camera in landscape- AND portrait-mode on the ballhead. Normally you would use the drop-notch on the ballhead to position the camera in portrait mode. This drop-notch is available on most ballheads, but seriously limits the movement of the ballhead, and it puts the camera in a lower (and on most times in an awkward) position.
After serious research, I bought the Really Right Stuff BD300-L. This plate is 100% compatible with the Arca-Swiss system (just like the Wimberley plates).
The following photos show the RRS BD300-L in combination with the Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1.

Thanks for posting this, I was just searching to see what L-Plates are compatible with the Arca-Swiss Z1. I actually prefer the Really Right Stuff L-Plate to the Arca-Swiss one as it has an 'open area' where the input jacks are on the body for remotes and such.
Just wondering now if there's a Wimberley equivalent of the D700 non grip L-Plate.
Cheers
Thanks a lot for posting the photos and validating the RRS L-Bracket compatibility. I have searched endlessly for this information. It's nice to finally see a camera mounted on the Z1 since you may well be one of a very small group that have posted a photo. I have yet to find any specs on the Z1 and to date - no one has posted the head diameter. It remains as the most guarded secret on the Internet but at least your photos gives me some sort of scale. Thanks again!
